The Posen Potato Festival in Posen, Michigan

Posen-Alpena, Michigan

Story Narrative:

"I go to the Posen Potato Festival every year, and I love it because they sell great potatoes!"

"What's your favorite part about the Potato Festival?"

"Watching the parade on Sunday."

"What's your favorite float in the parade?"

"It's not really a float that's my favorite part of it, but it's a marching band. And, Alpena High School has one of the best bands in Northern Michigan."

"Well, that's cool."

"And I marched in it for four years."

"Oh, cool. What instrument did you play?"

"Clarinet."

Part of the "Stories from Main Street" project--an effort to collect stories about small-town life across the United States. The project was the brainchild of the Smithsonian's "Museum on Main Street" program, an initiative that brings traveling exhibitions about subjects of national importance to small towns across America.
