"One of my favorite memories of Weirton when I was a little girl, and we really didn't live in Weirton, but my dad worked in Weirton. We lived in the area, all of our family did. The community center had activities for children, and I remember going to see fairy tales acted out at the community center. I also remember, one time my cousins and I came for art lessons--drawing lessons at the community center--so that was a nice extra thing that we didn't get to do at other places."
Part of the "Stories from Main Street" project--an effort to collect stories about small-town life across the United States. The project was the brainchild of the Smithsonian's "Museum on Main Street" program, an initiative that brings traveling exhibitions about subjects of national importance to small towns across America.
