A Summer Job at Monsanto, Nebraska

Cozad, Nebraska

Story Narrative:

Talk about your first job.

"I started working at Monsanto in early July. A hot, sunny, July day is not the ideal weather to work in a cornfield, but I had to do what I had to do to be able to drive. Working at Monsanto wasn't all that bad. We occasionally got zucchini cake after work.

In the end, everything I endured was worth it. My parents gave me two choices, I could walk to school, or I could drive, with exception of having a job. I went with the obvious choice to drive to school. The deal was, now that I had a job they would pay for my gas, but I had to pay for everything else.

The first day of work was the worst day of my life, it was so hot and dry, it was like working in the middle of a desert. Then I started working in the morning, and it was unexpectedly cold and wet. I still don't know what was worse, the heat or being soaking wet all day. But either way, I didn't care, because I could already taste the freedom of driving. On the bright side, I did meet a lot of interesting people, working at Monsanto."
