"My favorite memory of a small town is the town where my grandparents lived in Freeland, Michigan. It was fun to be in Freeland and see all the things going on there. I enjoyed it a lot. One time, my uncle gave me permission to drive the tractor and wagon into town to deposit wheat that had been harvested--in the elevator. And that was fun.
I think the other thing that was a lot of fun was going to the general store and seeing all the things on all the shelves in noks and crannies and then having an ice cream cone as a finish for that. I really enjoyed writing my book, which is about my family and goes back to the 1600s. And right now, my son and I are recording it on a CD, including what I wrote and things that we found like pictures and artifacts and so forth. It's really been great, and we're probably going to be doing this for more than a year."
