As told by Bismarck High School Students
Bismarck, Arkansas

Story Narrative:

A screenshot of presentation that shows vintage photos of two high school basketball teams.

Students at Bismarck High School collaborated with students in the Public History program at Ouachita Baptist University, to explore the history of the high school’s athletic teams and supporting organizations. They located many photographs and conducted oral history interviews with two of the school’s athletic coaches.

Speaker 1 (00:00): Which athletics do you help with?

Jeff Flowers (00:04): I'm the assistant basketball coach.

Speaker 1 (00:06): Okay.

Jeff Flowers (00:07): Chaz, for all six basketball teams. That would be the senior high boys, the junior high boys, the seventh grade boys, the senior high girls, the junior high girls, the seventh grade girls.

Speaker 1 (00:19): Okay.

Jeff Flowers (00:20): Anything else?

Speaker 1 (00:22): Four more questions. So the next question is, what merits have been achieved while you're at this school? Like, any championships or anything like that?

Jeff Flowers (00:40): For me or the school?

Speaker 1 (00:42): For anything that you remember, really. We just want information.

Jeff Flowers (00:47): Well, I mean, are you talking about the stuff that I've been involved with or just the school as a whole?

Speaker 1 (00:52): I'll say the stuff you've been involved with.

Jeff Flowers (00:53): Oh, just the stuff I've been involved with?

Speaker 1 (00:53): Yes.

Jeff Flowers (00:55): Okay, because I was saying we got a state championship with the girls' golf and I wasn't involved in that, but if you want to give me credit for it ...

Speaker 1 (00:55): I will ...

Jeff Flowers (00:55): I can't do ...

Speaker 1 (00:55): I mean, we already saw that. We already did that.

Jeff Flowers (01:06): I can't do it, but, too late. Let's see. Well, I did, I got a couple tennis championships when I was ... district championships when I was coaching tennis.

Speaker 1 (01:18): Okay.

Jeff Flowers (01:18): And a junior high girls' district championship and district tournament champions.

Speaker 1 (01:25): Okay. And then what are some rivals of the teams that you coach? If you were to ask the team members what team they would call a rival, I guess, who would that be?

Jeff Flowers (01:41): Probably the top two, and Centerpoint being the top rival, but also I'd say probably, maybe Jessieville maybe, but Centerpoint's probably going to be the big rival.

Speaker 1 (01:41): Okay.
