A Halloween Celebration in Kansas

As told by Belinda
Lawson, Missouri

Story Narrative:

What's your favorite memory of living in a small town?

"Hi. my name is Belinda and I grew up in Independence, Kansas. And we had a celebration around Halloween and it was call "Neewollah." And that is Halloween spelled backwards. And it was a week-long celebration. There was a queen pageant. You're speaking to Queen Neewollah 1974, thank you. And we had a talent show. We had a hometown play. We had a do-da parade where all the adults dressed up in Halloween outfits. Then we had a kiddie parade and to top it off on Saturday, we had the biggest parade in Kansas that latest 2 hours. And the town of 7,000 would get 20,000 people there on Saturday. It was so fun."
