"Hi! This is Laura and Kelly, and we're from Matawan, New Jersey. (Laughs). We both went to Matawan regional high school. I'd say that to have fun in our community, people went to the bowling alley, or to the ice cream parlor, or to the bagel shop. Or, you sit in the parking lot outside the bowling alley, the ice cream parlor, or the bagel shop (laughs), which was equally fun! And, then when you grew up, you got to go to Court Jester, in and around the age of 21, which was in the same shopping center as the ice cream shop, the bowling alley, and the bagel store! Other than that, that was about it. That's all there really is to do in Matawan. We hope you come visit."

The project was the brainchild of the Smithsonian's "Museum on Main Street" program, an initiative that brings traveling exhibitions about subjects of national importance to small towns across America.
