A Child's Great Day in Alpena, Michigan

Alpena, Michigan

Story Narrative:

"I like to go swimming with my mom, my friends and my sister, and my family. I we like to play with the sand castles and wreck them and make them again! And . . . what was the other one? And super soakers! And they spray everybody, and it's so fun! And with the life jacket, I like to go on my back and my belly and swim. And last year, I swam almost a fire (?) and it was so fun, we're probably going to go swimming today, and um, it's going to be so fun because we're going to ReSkill Fireworks (Ann Arbor ReSkilling Festival), and it's going to be so fun!"

Part of the "Stories from Main Street" project--an effort to collect stories about small-town life across the United States. The project was the brainchild of the Smithsonian's "Museum on Main Street" program, an initiative that brings traveling exhibitions about subjects of national importance to small towns across America.
