The Community Center in Franklin, Kansas

Franklin , Kansas

Story Narrative:

"People come to the Franklin Community Center to gather as a community. It's now used as a museum, and after the tornado that destroyed most of the community, this has been the center, the hub of the community--where everyone knows that they can come and visit with their friends and share their stories and have a good time."

Part of the "Stories from Main Street" project--an effort to collect stories about small-town life across the United States. The project was the brainchild of the Smithsonian's "Museum on Main Street" program, an initiative that brings traveling exhibitions about subjects of national importance to small towns across America.
