Concerts and Community near Red Rocks, Colorado

Morrison, Colorado

Story Narrative:

"Where I live, it's a gorgeous place, right where the Plains meet the Rocky Mountains, and they have this place in the mountains called Red Rocks, and it's a very, very interesting geological site because the rocks are completely red, hence, the name. And, they've made this amphitheater, where people listen to music, rock concerts, orchestra, everything. And, it's got such great acoustics because of the geological site. That's just one aspect of what we do to have fun. Also, the downtown area is very fun. They have fountains where little kids play and it's always busy. There's always flowers--tulips, daffodils, pansies, everything. It's very gorgeous. The restaurant businesses are very good. People go there pretty late. It's a really laid-back town, and you can find people every hour of the day because it's a college town. You can go to lots of parties. It's a very wonderful community to live in."

Part of the "Stories from Main Street" project--an effort to collect stories about small-town life across the United States. The project was the brainchild of the Smithsonian's "Museum on Main Street" program, an initiative that brings traveling exhibitions about subjects of national importance to small towns across America.
