From Poland to Michigan--Immigration Hardships

Alpena, Michigan

Story Narrative:

"The early American immigrants coming over from Poland, quite often the hardships that they encountered, just traveling to get TO Michigan by wagon train, often women would lose their husbands. They may end up being widowed with a small child, coming to a strange land, strange country. Often they would end up marrying someone else for convenience because it was necessary just to be able to survive--the farming, the basic day-to-day living. It was a very difficult life, and we have a lot to be grateful for."
