Swimming with Dolphins in the Bahamas

"Many years ago, like 20 or so, (wow time flies!) I had a wonderful opportunity to go scuba diving in the Bahamas with dolphins. We went to a dolphin sanctuary and the dive operation opened the gates for a couple of dolphins to follow the boat out into open water. I wondered why the dolphins don’t just swim off and never return. At a certain point, the boat stopped and all of us gathered for the dolphin dive were briefed on what we were going to do underwater and what was expected of us as we interacted with the dolphins.

We all entered the ocean and took our time sinking/swimming down to the ocean floor where we knelt in a large circle in our scuba gear. Sure enough, the dolphins were right with us. The diver that worked with the dolphins did different hand commands that the dolphins responded to such as swimming to each of us in the circle so we could pet them and feel them with our hands, or swimming to each of us and as we extended our arms, the dolphin placed its nose in our hand and spun us around, and my favorite memory the dolphin 'kiss'. I will never forget how the dolphin felt. It reminded me of an inner-tube used to play on and swim in the lake with when I was a kid, but yet very solid and alive. The experience was so amazing and enforced my love of the water, the beauty of it, and the beauty of all of the creatures who inhabit it."
