From St. Louis to Northern Michigan

Alpena, Michigan

Story Narrative:

How did your family come to live in your hometown?

"We moved up to northeast Michigan when I was about five years old from St. Louis, Missouri. My dad was in radio, and he was looking to get a job where he could have more air time. So, we loaded up the station wagon with five children. I think the ages were 15 down to 3, and we drove 13 hours up to a very remote, snow covered northeast Michigan, actually it was in Hawks. We lived there for a little while until we moved into the big city of Rogers City. We lived there for about four years on First Street right a block away from Lake Huron, which was an experience for all of us. It was a beautiful little community but very remote, very far away from the big city of St. Louis. Then we moved over to Travers City for a year, lived there, and then back over here to Alpena in northeast Michigan, and we've been here ever since. And that's how I got to Alpena, Michigan."
