Bring a MoMS exhibition to Your State!

Exhibition Booking Process

Museum on Main Street (MoMS) is pleased to offer an open booking process for state humanities councils interested in touring MoMS exhibitions.  Please note the following:

General Information:

  1. MoMS exhibitions are only available for touring a state via the sponsorship of the state humanities council; exhibitions are not available for individual bookings by museums. (State Councils that are interested in hosting a MOMS tour but don’t feel that they have the staff or full resources to commit to a tour may consider partnering with another state organization, such as a state museum association, to host a tour). Museums and other cultural institutions interested in hosting a MoMS exhibition should contact their state humanities council to discuss their state council’s plans for hosting a tour.
  2. The chart below indicates available exhibitions.  This chart will be updated as often as possible.  Please note the date of the last update as slots may have filled in the interim.
  3. For details about each exhibition, click on the exhibition name.
  4. Before booking a tour, please review the project rationale, benefits, and obligations of a state council hosting a MOMS tour.
  5. Hosting a Museum on Main Street tour is a three year commitment--planning at the state level is conducted in year one, local planning in year two and in the third year the exhibition tours the state. Therefore, in order to maintain our program and training schedule, MoMS needs to confirm exhibition tours at least three years in advance. For example, in 2008 we are especially looking to confirm all tours for 2011; but we welcome bookings for 2012 and beyond.

Booking Process:

  1. At any time a state council may place a HOLD on a particular exhibition for a particular year; based on the availability, a slot will be reserved for them on that tour. They will be required to either commit to a “CONFIRMED BOOKING” by September 1st of the year proceeding the first year of three year tour commitment or release the “HOLD” so that the exhibition can be booked by another state council.
  2. Between September 1 through December 31 of the year proceeding the first year of the three year tour commitment, Museum on Main Street will actively recruit CONFIRMED BOOKINGS for any open tour slots.
  3. Bookings will be awarded on a first-come-first-serve basis with the following exception: on the last year of an exhibition’s availability, priority will be given to state councils who have never hosted that exhibition over councils wishing to host an encore tour.
  4. Encore tours, concurrent tours and double bookings of the same exhibition are allowable, pending availability.  Based on experience we recommend that, unless they have experienced MoMS state coordinators on staff, councils allow a year between each tour.
  5. A CONFIRMED BOOKING fully commits the council to the tour--including the full participation fee.

Interested state councils should contact LuAnn Kern, MoMS Co-Director/State Councils (luannkern@comcast.net or 517-242-8005) to book a MoMS exhibition.
